Believe it or not, I wasn't always the outspoken and loud person that I am today. When Joel and I first meet, I so shy and quiet I wouldn't even speak to him. To be honest, I don't even remember him trying to talk to me. The first memory that I have of Joel is when we were helping with a JROTC summer camp and he was showing off his truck, that he had just gotten from his Grandma and he was so proud of it. I couldn't help be think of how redneck he was. We didn't really talk until I was done with basic training and almost done with AIT. He asked to be my friend on Facebook and we somehow managed to just hit things off. It wasn't even two weeks after we had started talking and we were dating. Months later, we started falling in love and then just before I left to make my journey here to Afghanistan, Joel proposed. I was on a four day pass, which Joel and my parents came down for, and we passed Inner Space Cavern just outside of Austin. We tried going taking a tour of it in the morning, but due to an elementary school field trip, we were forced to come later in the day. I'm glad that we went back because in the last room that we went to, the lights went off to show us how dark it can get in the caves. The lights came back on and Joel was down on one knee. While he was giving his speech to me, I couldn't help but cry and it was all I could do to let him finish before I said yes. We can't begin to imagine what our lives would be like without each other, as we are each other's best friend and what makes each other's lives complete. |
